The song, written and directed by Selma Vilhunen, is a story about the last Finnish rune singer and his student.
Jussi Huovinen (89), is the only resident of his home village Hietajärvi. He is the last living Finn who has learned the millennia-old rune songs orally, from his own mother and father.
Hanneriina Moisseinen (35), is a visual artist and cartoonist who wants to learn from Jussi, not only the songs but all the wisdom that is hidden in them. The film follows Hanneriina and Jussi over three years, during which each of them faces perhaps the greatest sorrow of their lives. In the end, all we need, and all that remains of us, is the song.
