Two elderly Gwich’in women —Ch’idzigyaak and Sa’—find themselves abandoned by their tribe during a brutally harsh famine.

The film follows the story of Sámi activist Niillas Somby in Norway during the late 1970s and early 1980s, amidst the Alta conflict. An attempt to halt a hydroelectric project on the river ended in personal tragedy and a flight to Canada.
The documentary combines archival footage, reenacted scenes, and mythical elements. Niillas’s own voice guides the viewer on a journey from imprisonment to freedom, asking: what is happening now to Sámi rights and the natural world?
