On Saturday evening, Taidenavetta will transform into a cradle of music, dance and audiovisual art.

The evening will start with a psychedelic short film collection by Arttu Nieminen, after which Veera Neva will take the stage, conjuring up a magical soundscape with her singing and instruments. The rest of the evening will be spent enjoying and unwinding with the rhythms provided by Dj Mosaiq. All of this will be crowned with live visuals by Arttu Nieminen during the musical performances.

This Flowing Moment – Experimental short films by Arttu Nieminen

The exhibition dives into the Laplandish-futuristic and surreal world of Arttu Nieminen. From his travels, he has photographed the hypnotic features of Arctic nature, the dissonances and the pulse of big cities, concocting mental landscapes that are suddenly pierced by brutal montages. In his works, he reflects on this flowing moment, environmental issues and the next steps of our species’ consciousness…

“I feel like I am on the verge of a propaganda film, even though I strive to create a purifying artistic experience. I think of my works as audiovisual spells in which I strive to instill the power of change”

The works echo the contribution of the creative partners who have shared Nieminen’s artistic journey: poets Gregory Whitehead and Niillas Holmberg, co-director Hans Pieski, and musicians Veera Neva and Amanda Martikainen.

Veera Neva & Arttu Nieminen / Audiovisual concert

Veera Neva’s music and Arttu Nieminen’s media art combine into an audiovisual spell that opens a path to what we can experience in this time as a sacred connection, a forgotten ritual. A path with ourselves, nature and the universe. The concert reaches back to the roots, when man did not try to be above nature, but a harmonious part of it.

Veera Neva creates a magical atmosphere in her one-woman orchestra with her voice, saxophone and electronic sounds. Neva combines ambient, electroacoustic music, polyphonic vocal music, sound art, cinematic and folk music, with nature as a source of inspiration and the constant movement of life.

The starting point of Nieminen’s media art work is a form that plays with symmetry and horizon, the fragile arctic nature, and a hypnotic imagery similar to omens and visions. Isolated, mystical and flowing are the adjectives from which his works hallucinate their form. They are eerie odes to the mystical aspects of nature, inviting you to look at the forest with new eyes.

Veera Neva is a one-woman orchestra that has moved from the north to Tampere, and whose music is filled with the mystery of life, mythological elements and a magical connection to nature. The worlds woven together with her own voice, saxophone and electronic sounds offer the experiencer the opportunity to surrender to their inner spaces and a mythical state of mind. Neva has released two solo albums and several video works in collaboration with Nieminen. Her music has also been featured in Nieminen’s short films.

Arttu Nieminen is a media artist based in Rovaniemi. Flowing nature images, poetic utterances, minimalist music and brutal montages that disrupt the whole are the cornerstones of his expression. Nature, as well as colossal man-made structures and the pulse of the city, appear to him as its own conscious entity or a mystical interface between the visible and the invisible.

Nieminen’s video art breathes life in museums, galleries and cinemas, but also at events as installations and facade projections. At events and festivals, he creates video installations and throws himself into artistic collaborations, where media art collides with performance, choreography, poetry and music.

“Environmental issues and the conflicting relationship between humans and nature are recurring themes in my work. I also reflect on the level of consciousness of humanity and the choices we have at hand every moment as we sensitize ourselves at crossroads and reach as a species towards a higher state of consciousness.”

Dj Mosaiq

Teo began his journey with music collection as a small child by recording to cassettes and has since actively sought out all kinds of sounds to listen and admire.

In mixing, he seeks to wind together atmospheres and hold steady space for the listener and their process, whether that be inner journeys or diligent movement of the feet.

The symbiosis of big & small, unity of new & ancient, and the assembly of modern & organic, are elements and contrasts often present in his musical selections.
